Build stupid s**t that nobody needs | A Swipe hackathon experience - Cover Image

Build stupid s**t that nobody needs | A Swipe hackathon experience

Awarded by: Swipe iX

Date: Oct 2023

Choosing the Winning Team At the end of the hackathon, each team needed to present their project to the Swipe management team. The purpose of the presentation was to showcase the entire project lifecycle and needed to include the documentation, planning, UX and design right through to the actual POC and a blog post for the project.

Each project was then judged on a weighted set of criteria out of 100 points, including points of use of technology, documentation, UX and design, presentation, blog post and execution. It was a tight race, but in the end, Duplica walked away with the spoils by scoring 71 out of 100 points. Swipe's NFT mascot, "The Bok", came in second place with 59 points, followed by Scissor Me, with 57 points.

Personal Interests & Hobbies

Product Innovation

I love building things from scratch, especially SaaS platforms and digital tools that solve real problems or just scratch an itch. Most of my projects start out as experiments, driven by curiosity and a need to see what works in the real world, even if there’s no business plan behind it. Shipping live products, getting feedback, and improving fast is where I thrive.

Automation and DevOps

I have a knack for finding the most efficient way to get things done. If a task can be automated, it will be. I enjoy setting up cloud infrastructure, scripting workflows, and creating serverless solutions so that systems basically run themselves and I can focus on more interesting problems.

Game Development

Game dev is my latest passion project. I have gone deep into Unity and C#, working on Savari Island—a supernatural farming game inspired by life in Namibia. I handle every part of the process, from gameplay design and coding to solving unexpected bugs that show up at midnight.

Curiosity-Driven Learning

Learning is part of my daily routine. I am always testing out new frameworks, reading up on the latest AWS features, or playing with new APIs. I believe in building things to learn, so my side projects usually double as experiments for new tech.

Creative Experimentation

I appreciate good design and believe every product should look and feel great to use. Whether it’s improving UI/UX, dabbling in photography, or adding extra touches to make a project stand out, I put creative thought into everything I build.
